The tread pattern on this model is directional, with the centre blocks being dramatically harder than the shoulder blocks. The stiffer centre rib provides a more stable ride, while Japanese engineers have incorporated several thousand densely spaced 3D sipes into the tread to improve traction. Wide drainage grooves are standard on modern winter tyres, and for good reason! This drainage channel system perfectly drains snow and water, drying the contact patch and improving grip.
Bridgestone Noranza 001 studs
In tandem with the sipes, the ice grip is created by a special new generation of studs. The studs are shaped like a bone and cut into the ice surface with a strong grip, significantly improving grip, shortening braking distances, and are designed not to fall out when driving hard on asphalt.
The studs extend the life of the tyre, and a wear indicator is built into the tyre, allowing the rider to determine exactly how much tread depth is left easily.
